First woman President, Kanupriya make’s history in PU election 2018
September 8, there was a voting for the Students’ Union elections in 2018, in which the Students for Society (SFS) won with heavy votes and Kanupriya’s head became the first woman president. Apart from this, voting also held in 11 colleges related to PU.
Nearly one-hour students cast their votes. There are 31 thousand voters in 11 colleges. There are 15281 voters in Punjab University. A complete of 21 applicants had been apply for the posts of president, vice-president, general secretary and joint secretary. Six in the fray for the top publish, which include a girl candidate from the students for Society (SFS).
The student polls concluded round 11:30 in the morning. The low turnout in the campus polls is attributed to the long weekend prior to the Election Day. The scholar leaders said they did not get enough time to reach out to the voters. “The turnout has remained low because of the vacations. There was less time to engage with the scholars to convince them to participate within the polls,” Nishant Kaushal, PUCSC 2016
Iqbal Singh, who contested the elections from the SOE Party in the Punjab University Students’ Union election, told that he has always fought for the rights of the students. He said that we will fill the feedback form with the students. What ever the suggestion they give to us, President, said.
